Annual Plant Sale in the Victoria Hall
Saturday, 1st June 2019
Members have been busy since the last Plant Sale, sowing, growing, splitting and potting up plants, trees and shrubs.
Some members have also been baking and making preserves for this year's sale.
A huge amount of unseen work goes into this throughout the year but it's all worthwhile when we see the pleasure it gives to the buyers.
Friday was spent setting up the hall and transporting the various donations,
which then had to be sorted into their individual categories and priced.
The quality of the plants, as always was outstanding.

We were all up first thing on the Saturday morning for a final check that everything was ready to go.
Gillian Cassie, our "official" photographer, arrived and took some great photos by which time
a long queue had already formed around the block,
well before the doors opened at 9.30am.

It was non-stop in the first hour with everyone grabbing a bargain and although things did slow down slightly, there was a continuous stream of people eager to buy our wares, with some even returning for further visit to add to their previous purchases.

We were delighted to receive numerous compliments regarding the
wonderful and varied selection of plants and other items available for sale.
The slideshow below shows just what we mean.

By noon, very little was left and we all breathed a huge sigh of relief that everything had once more gone to plan.
Whilst tidying up, the remaining plants were put outside the hall ready for the donors to take away.
However, many sold to passers-by who had missed the sale!
The main raffle prize, a bottle of Aberlour Whisky, was won by Morag Hood
And after all this frantic work, what's left to do but to have a sit down with a hard earned cuppie.

The final figure has yet to be announced, as some of the expenses have still to be deducted, but it's thought
it will be in the region of £1400.........the highest amount every taken at our Plant Sale.
The monies will fund our Flower Show in August and go towards the general costs of running the Society, speakers' fees, etc.
Several members are already thinking of next year's Sale and have begun the process of growing plants and making plans
for sowing/growing even more of them into Autumn and molly-coddling them over the Winter months!
A very big thank you to everyone who donated and helped before and on Sale day. We definitely couldn't have done it without all your efforts.
Thanks must also go to those who purchased goods from us. We look forward to seeing you next year.
All that remains to be said is:
"We hope your newly purchased plants do well this season
and the perennials continue to perform for you in the years to come.
Have a lovely Summer"
