Annual Plant Sale in the Victoria Hall
Saturday, 2 June 2018
Here we go again - it was time for another Ballater Royal Horticultural Society Plant Sale.
After several intensive hours on the Friday afternoon, setting up the tables, sorting and pricing the plants, books and home produce, it was all systems go for our annual Plant Sale which took place in the Victoria Hall on the following day.
The sun shone for the large queue of people. This queue, as in previous years, extended round the corner and down the street from the Hall; with everyone hoping to bag a bargain - and they subsequently did.
Unfortunately, we were hit by a flash flood just as the sale closed at noon, when the heavens deposited rain in what can only be described as "biblical proportions".
After we cleared the Hall and delivered the plants to those who didn't have the means to transport them home, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say it really was a case of not being able to get any wetter!
However, we all dried out and no damage was done.
Considering the long winter and erratic weather patterns which resulted in fewer plants being available to sell, we're very pleased to report that we raised an amazing £1159, which will certainly go a considerable way to funding the Flower Show in August.
Well done everyone !
Very many thanks to all who took the time to raise such healthy plants and produce the delicious home baking/preserves and then generously donate them to the Sale.
Appreciation goes to everyone who donated prizes for the raffle and to all the helpers who gave up their time on the day and also to those who eagerly bought our wares.
We hope you get lots of enjoyment from your plants over this and subsequent seasons.
Why not take a few moments to see what went on by playing the slideshow below?
Our grateful thanks go to Gillian Cassie who kindly took the photographs to record the event.
